Benedictions

Browse over 115 different benedictions, drawn primarily from scripture. Find the perfect "good word" as your "last word" of your worship service.

What is a Benediction?

The word benediction comes from Latin and literally means “good word” (bene [good] + dicere [to say, speak]). Put another way, a benediction is a blessing that “speaks well” to a person or persons at the conclusion of a church service. A benediction generally acts as a final blessing at the conclusion of a worship service, but can also be used to close out a variety of Christian gatherings. They are traditionally somewhat short, often drawn from the Bible, and remind us of our identities as followers of Jesus and our inheritance as God’s children. Get the big picture on benedictions here.

Amen.

Adapted from Lamentations 3:22-24 and Ephesians 2:11-22

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is his faithfulness. ‘The Lord is our portion,’ says our souls, ‘therefore, we will hope in him.’ Go now with the assurance that He is our peace and through him the dividing wall of hostility has been dismantled. We are his new creation built upon Christ, the cornerstone and foundation, created in him for good works. Let us now walk in them. In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Isaiah 55:10 & 11 "For as the rain comes down

Leader: For as the rain comes down and the snow from the sky, and does not return there, but waters the earth, and makes it grow and bud, and gives seed to the sower and bread to the eater; so is my word that goes out of my mouth: it will not return to me void, but it will accomplish that which I please, and it will prosper in the thing I sent it to do.

Isaiah 55:6-9, "Seek the Lord while he may be

Leader: Seek the Lord while he may be found. Call on him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts. Let him return to the Lord, and he will have mercy on him, to our God, for he will freely pardon. "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not my ways," says the Lord. "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts."
